Silicon Wok is the home of Hawker Heritage, an open library on how Singapore's hawker trade works: what a plate costs to make, who earns what, and what it would take to keep the trade alive for another generation.

The library itself lives at hawker.siliconwok.com. This site is where we write about it, share stories from the stalls, and invite you in.

Who keeps it

Silicon Wok is written and kept by Uncle James. James is born and based in Singapore. He dual-trained as an electrical and computer engineer and public policy. He began his career in the Singapore Government as an industry developer, then spent years as an early-stage venture investor and serial tech entrepreneur. He’s currently working in the automotive industry after his last startup was acquired in 2025. He’s always been an avid foodie and writes as Uncle James at siliconwok.com.
